We're going solar

Well, we've been interested in alternative energy for quite some time now. The day has finally arrived and we're installing a grid-tied solar system, which is suppose to take care of about 80% of our electric cost. Yup, the old meter will be spinning backwards when we're not using much electric power.

So here are the panels themselves waiting to be put up on the roof.

And here's a close-up of a panel itself. Cool huh? As the installation progresses, I'll keep you updated.

Mel's toy collections

I have a long time friend, Mel Birnkrant, that lives but a few miles from me. My relationship with Mel started one day, years ago, when I received a frantic phone call that his computer had crashed. He had found my business in the phone book. Anyway, Mel explained to me that Dell simply wanted to wipe his hard drive clean and re-install Windows. Unfortunately he claimed to have thousands of images on the computer that couldn't be lost and could I help.

Mel arrived some time later with his computer in hand. Being very protective of his work, he asked if he could sit and wait while I did the work. Well, it ended up taking hours and hours to recover the images. During that time, we had a couple of cocktails and formed a friendship that has continued over the years. By the way, I was able to save all of his work.

Since that time I have visited his home many times and every time there I see something new that I hadn't seen the last time. It is absolutely awesome.
